The Brief
A hospitality group developing a five-star property in Dubai needed 2,400 m² of premium white marble for its ground-floor lobby: reception feature wall, flooring, column cladding and elevator surrounds. The design called for book-matched Calacatta Gold on the main feature wall with Statuario White flooring — a combination that demanded exceptional slab selection discipline.
The Challenge: Consistency at Scale
The feature wall required eight consecutive slabs with mirrored veining. Instead of selecting from stock, we reserved two entire Calacatta Gold blocks at the quarry, had them sawn sequentially, and numbered each slab in cutting order. This guaranteed that adjacent slabs share continuous veining — the foundation of true book-matching.
Execution Timeline
- Week 1–2: Block reservation and slab photo documentation approved by the architect.
- Week 3–5: Cutting, calibration and polishing of Statuario flooring in 800x800mm and 1200x600mm formats.
- Week 6: Four-stage QC inspection with gloss and thickness reports submitted for approval.
- Week 7: Container loading — 6 x 40' HC containers with documented bundle positions.
- Week 9: Arrival in Jebel Ali Port; site installation supervised with our technical drawings.
The Result
The book-matched feature wall became the visual signature of the hotel — an unbroken flow of golden veining mirrored across 14 meters behind the reception desk. The Statuario flooring, laid in a French pattern with Nero Marquina accents, delivered the brightness the architect wanted under the lobby's atrium lighting.
What This Project Taught Us
Large-scale luxury projects are won in the details of logistics: consecutive-slab numbering, photographic approval loops, and packing engineered for 35-day sea transit in Gulf summer heat. If your project needs matched veining or large-format consistency, talk to us early — the right block has to be reserved before anyone else sees it.
